Products are sold direct in 18 countries worldwide and through distributors in over 60 others and are supported by field sales, field service, clinical education and marketing organizations.
General Summary
The Sr. Director, Finance- Japan is responsible for the full finance/accounting function of Candela’s Japan entity, as well as General Affairs to include Legal and IT except for Human Resources. In addition, is responsible for overseeing the Japan’s financial strategy, planning, reporting and management to include OpEx, Capital Investments in accordance with the corporation’s monthly, quarterly, and annual financial direction and requirements. This role ensures financial stability, supports business growth, and partners with executive leadership to drive data-driven decision-making.
This individual will build a strong collaborative relationship with SVP, General Manager North Asia for Japan to coordinate activities and strategic alignment. And, will act as a steward of creating a positive and productive working environment, partnering closely with Human Resources to support employee engagement, organizational effectiveness, and office culture within the subsidiary.
Primary Responsibilities
Under the direction of VP, International Controller, work collaboratively with the SVP, General Manager North Asia to provide accounting/financial services:
Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A)
· Oversee budgeting, forecasting, and financial modeling processes
· Analyze financial performance and provide actionable insights
· Establish KPIs and financial metrics to track organizational performance
· Drive continuous improvement in financial planning processes - improve and streamline processes to enhance efficiency
Accounting & Financial Reporting
· Ensure accuracy and integrity of financial statements
· Oversee monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes
· Manage external audits and regulatory reporting requirements
· Maintain strong internal controls and compliance standards
· Financial rolling forecast including business forecast and review
· Adherence to Corporate policies and procedures, global policy harmonization
· Facilitate corporate audits and similar annual activities
· Tightening internal control environment including policy setup, reengineering of processes or systems, training etc.
· Automation and reporting enhancement
Cash Flow & Capital Management
· Monitor cash flow, liquidity, and working capital
· Optimize capital structure and funding strategies
· Oversee banking relationships and financing arrangements
Risk Management & Compliance
· Manage relationships with external auditors, tax advisors, banks, and regulatory authorities
· Ensure full compliance in statutory financial reporting, audit, tax filing and corporate compliance requirements
· Identify financial risks and implement mitigation strategies
· Oversee tax planning and regulatory filings (as applicable)
Team Leadership
· Build, lead, and mentor a high-performing finance team
· Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous development
· Partner cross-functionally with operations, HR, sales, and other departments
Other
General Affairs/Legal/IT
· Oversees General Affairs in conjunction with Candela’s legal department
· Act as the legal and IT lead for Japan in collaborating with corporate legal/IT in resolving and driving related matters (prior to resolution)
· Participates in hiring processes and onboarding for new employees, in collaboration with HR and Hiring Managers, when requested; occasionally back up for Japan payroll
· Actively promotes a healthy and safe working environment for Japan staff
· Perform other duties as assigned by VP, International Controller
Knowledge/Educational Requirements
· Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, economics, or related field (MBA a plus)
· CPA, CFA, or equivalent certification strongly preferred
· 10 years of progressive finance experience, including leading teams
· Strong financial acumen and strategic thinking
· Expertise in financial modeling, forecasting, and analysis
· Proven leadership and team management capabilities
· Excellent communication and executive presentation skills
· Exhibits High level of integrity and attention to detail
· Experience with ERP systems and financial software
· Ability to work in a fast-paced and multi-cultural environment
· Ideally, professional work-experience with a capital equipment company previously
· Strong business acumen, strategic mindset, critical thinking skills

· Proficient in achieving results in a matrixed organization
· Excellent communication skills, fluent in both written and spoken Japanese and English
