Role Summary:

The Cloud Architect oversees cloud architecture and plays a strategic role in designing and maintaining all cloud systems including the front-end platforms, servers, storage, and management networks. 
Beazley is on an exciting journey leading the digitalisation of the specialist insurance market and has embarked on a multi-year modernisation programme that will deliver our strategy and enable data driven decisions leveraging Cloud technologies.

As we are starting on our Cloud journey, we are building out our operating model (people, processes and tools) required to deliver and support a multi cloud environment, pioneering in Azure first. 

Key Responsibilities:

    Work with the Enterprise Architecture Team and other organization functions to support the development of standard architecture patterns leveraging internal and external good practices
    Collaborate with cross-functional delivery teams to develop and promote cloud-native application architectures and application development and operations practices
    Participate in architectural discussions and design exercises to create large scale solutions built on cloud and present and review designs to the Technical Design Authority
    Design and develop detailed Cloud infrastructure architecture models working closely with cloud engineers and security architects
    Work with relevant delivery teams to ensure that all design issues and dependencies are resolved
    Design and develop detailed Cloud infrastructure architecture models working closely with cloud engineers and security architects
    Identify relevant IT architectures and ensure programme and business stakeholders, suppliers, fully understand architecture context,  standards and benefits
    Define and document cloud processes and standards and influence the adoption of these processes and standards
    Being a DevSecOps advocate, encouraging iterative design, with full automation for maximum scalability and speed of change

Personal Specification:

Qualifications (desirable but not essential)

    Azure Solutions Architect Expert, AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Professional or Professional Cloud Architect (GCP)
    Relevant Agile qualifications (SCRUM, KANBAN, SAFE, LESS etc)

Knowledge and Experience

    Practical knowledge of the different cloud offerings from the various cloud service providers (SaaS, IaaS and PaaS)
    Experience and thorough understanding of Cloud architecture (Azure in particular and/or AWS , GCP)
    Excellent understanding of cyber security and experience of designing solutions that are sufficiently protected against threats
    Cloud integration platforms and tools
    Technical knowledge and extensive experience with complex, IT environments including applications, middleware, storage, networks, information security
    Understanding of Cloud Managed Services
    Understanding of Cloud development frameworks, cloud native architectures and application delivery models
    Good knowledge on various OS (Windows, Linux, Unix, Solaris, Ubuntu, etc.)
    Good understanding of enterprise networks, security and identity access management (IAM)
    Commercial awareness and an ability to see the business benefits of new technologies
    Commercial experience of architecture in an agile framework
    Working with internal and external teams located across multiple time zones.
