Job Summary:

Beazley’s data reflects the complexity of our business, and our data architecture is in need of modernisation and rationalisation. We seek a talented data architect to help us meet these challenges. Our data architect must be a passionate data expert, able to excite and influence stakeholders to meet our common goals - this role is essential to our transformation into a digital company in order to meet our ambitious growth plans.

Key Responsibilities:

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

  • Defining our current data state in business terms, including but not limited to:
    • Owning and improving our corporate business data model
    • Documenting our data lineage across our business processes, identifying both value opportunities and where data quality issues arise
    • Owning and improving our business data glossary and dictionary, and working with our data team to drive awareness and value from it
  • Proposing a target state for our business data architecture that enables our strategic outcomes and is deliverable with realistic business and technology transformation.
  • Collaborating with our architecture community to map this current and target data view onto the rest of our architecture to shape our transition to target and unlock data value early
  • Strengthening and implementing data standards across our business to help ensure we meet our growth, efficiency, digitisation and new opportunity strategies
  • Collaborating with our data community under the guidance of our Head of Data to drive understanding and elevate the importance of data to our future across Beazley
  • Working as part of the wider data architecture team to meet our modernisation and rationalisation objectives across our traditional relational database estate and our emerging target event streaming architecture
  • Taking on specific data architecture challenges, working them through solution design and ensuring implementation meets our standards
  • Acting as a trusted consultant across our business as we explore, investigate and troubleshoot data opportunities and issues.

We recognise that we need to raise our data game in Beazley and to that end are growing a significant data architecture practice; this role will work with other data architects under the guidance of our Head of Data and Head of Enterprise Architecture to shape this team, with potential leadership opportunities for outstanding candidates.

  • Carry out additional responsibilities as individually notified, either through your objectives or through the learning management system.  These may include membership of any Beazley committees or working groups.

Personal Specification:

Education:

Bachelor's degree in data relevant area such as STEM, finance, economics or a related field of study desirable but not essential

Knowledge & Experience:

  • Data modelling, data lineage, data ownership and stewardship
  • Driving data quality improvement
  • Use of data dictionaries and glossaries to enable common data conversations and standards
  • Design and implementation of those data standards
  • Collaboration with technologists to realise business data goals
  • Extensive knowledge of and experience with RDBMS architectures
  • Ability to synthesise complex data problems into logical models and physical solutions
  • Knowledge of and experience with Graph and Event Streaming architectures desirable but not essential – we wish to upskill / train our architects in these emerging areas.
  • Familiarity with information management practices
  • Knowledge of business re-engineering principles and processes,
  • Strong modelling capability with the ability to clearly represent complex ideas graphically,
  • Familiar with a variety of modelling approaches, tools and model repositories,
  • Ability to translate complex domain specific concepts into knowledge that can be understood and consumed across domains.
