Your next exciting job opportunity:

BMT offer an exciting opportunity for an Associate Principal Engineer to join our established and successful dredging advisory team who are involved in solving the ports and logistics challenges of Australia’s transition to clean energy, including the construction of new ports, offshore wind farms and green fuel projects. We are a multi-disciplinary, marine-focused consulting firm seeking an experienced professional with proven experience in ports and dredging planning and design to join our existing dredging team, servicing the ports, renewable energy, and resources and have a strong pipeline of work in Australia and more broadly APAC including:

  • Dredging planning, design and approvals
  • Ports site selection, planning and logistics studies
  • Marine structures assessment and design
  • Metocean and environmental studies

 

In this role you will be able to:

  • Manage the successful delivery of various coastal and maritime projects in accordance with HSE and QA policies and procedures either individually, as part of a project delivery team, or by leading a project delivery team, depending on project complexity.
  • Assist with the management of projects in coastal management and engineering, ports planning, feasibility studies, marine infrastructure design and civil works with exposure to maintenance and capital dredging, land reclamation, geotechnical engineering, and hydrographic surveys
  • Civil and structural engineering at concept and detailed levels with focus on design of maritime infrastructure such as quay wall structural systems, bulk terminals, intake and outfall structures, and rubble mound structures and sound knowledge of the application of Australian and international relevant design codes
  • Performs professional technical work involving independence in approach, and a high degree of problem solving and judgement.
  • Supervise and review the work of Engineer / Scientists, designers/drafters, scientists and technicians.
  • Serve as a technical specialist for the organisation in the application of theoretical concepts and principles in a specialist field.
  • Translate big picture business plans and policy into operational and short terms plans.
  • Share knowledge and acts as a coach within area/s of specialist knowledge across the business.
  • Adhere to, and actively promote, quality, safety and environmental procedures/standards.
  • Liaise with clients, potential and current, for the purposes of service delivery, networking and business development.
  • Contributing to thought leadership activities through their work and/or by authoring papers and presenting at events, seminars and conferences.

 

Relevant Education, Experience, and Skills:

Essential: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil / Structural Engineering or other relevant area of study
  • In-depth knowledge of relevant Australian and international design standards, codes and guidelines and contemporary technical dredging, geotechnical and coastal issues
  • 10+ years professional experience in coastal and maritime design and engineering
  • A broad understanding of Port operations, environmental and commercial issues.
  • Sound knowledge of geotechnical engineering
  • Sound knowledge of hydraulic engineering
  • Fully developed project management skills coupled with commercial acumen and excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Sound experience in technical report writing.
  • A proven track record of managing engineering design projects and working as part of a team.
  • Experienced in the preparation of proposals, fee estimates and schedules.
  • Experienced in the whole of project lifecycle from site selection to environmental investigations, design development, permitting, construction and operation phases.
  • Have established relationships with Australian ports in relation to assisting clients in the delivery (or acting as Owner’s Engineer) of dredging programmes and associated industries such as offshore wind and resources.

 

Desirable:

  • Experience working within a multi-site organisation
  • Experience working within the engineering or resources sector
  • Marine specialisation Master’s degree
  • Most importantly - A passion for technical excellence and solving complex problems in the ports and offshore industries.
