About the role

Please note this is a FTC for 8 months.

Join our Commercial Team, providing essential commercial support across BMT in the UK & Europe. This role will serve as the primary contact for commercial matters, linking into the wider team for additional support when needed.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Offering commercial support and guidance on bidding, contractual, and other commercial matters.
  • Drafting and negotiating a wide range of contracts and legal documents, including teaming agreements, confidentiality agreements, tenders, proposals, and customer contract terms.
  • Supporting internal and external contacts on commercial issues that may arise after contract award.
  • Performing the role in alignment with BMT’s internal governance and delegations.

 In terms of location, our office is in Bath, and we are happy to explore flexible and hybrid working arrangements. The team meet in Bath for focused meetings twice a month and there may be requirements to meet with clients, most of whom are South West based.

About you

The ideal candidate will provide commercial support for various bidding, contractual, and commercial tasks. They will assist in preparing bids from a commercial perspective, which includes generating proposals, identifying risks, and reviewing terms and conditions. Additionally, the candidate will draft and negotiate a variety of contracts according to the BMT Contract Principles and delegation matrix.

The successful candidate will offer advice and guidance on post-contract issues such as disputes and payment matters. They will be a key member of the GBS Commercial Team, supporting other team members as needed. They will support commercial projects and implement new working practices to optimise productivity.

The role also involves maintaining all commercial databases and record-keeping. The candidate will raise commercial and contractual concerns to senior members as appropriate and review identified risks to ensure proper control and mitigation strategies are in place.

Experience and Skills Needed

  • Law Degree or equivalent, such as experience in MoD contracts.
  • Clear understanding and working knowledge of various contractual agreements and key contractual terms.
  • Ability to understand implications of contractual clauses related to IPR, ITAR, government transparency requirements, and security.
  • Competence in reviewing and redrafting commercial/legal documents.
  • Highly numerate and professionally adept with MS Office tools and similar IT systems.
  • Strong communication, negotiation, and relationship management skills.
  • Self-motivated, well organised, and methodical in approach.
  • Flexible, adaptable, and eager to contribute to team and business growth.
  • Capable of working independently as the sole contact as well as integrating within a small team.
