Field Service Technician

About the role

Field Service Technician (electrical or electronics technician) works with a team to assist in developing and testing electronic components and systems, in permanent monitoring systems, instrumentation and short-term deployment of specialized data collecting systems. Technician in this role is applying principles and theories of electronics, electrical circuitry, engineering mathematics, electronic and electrical testing, and physics. Work is primarily performed in the field, offshore or in shipyards. Usually works under general supervision.

 

Duties / Responsibilities:

Duties may include, but may not be limited to:

·         Preparing for offshore installation and service trips – identification of needed tools, equipment and packing;

·         Working with Service Engineers or Project Engineers in understanding the scope of work;

·         Performing Job Safety & Environmental Analysis (JSEA);

·         Performing offshore maintenance service, repair;

·         Preforming offshore diagnostic with both hardware and software;

·         Generation of Trip Reports

·         Assembly of Electrical and Mechanical systems and sub-systems in BMT Labs

·         Extended travel to remote and offshore locations

·         Other duties as assigned

 

Location & Flexibility:

Our office is located in Houston, Texas, and when not assigned to an offshore project, this role is required to be in office.

About you

Education and Experience:

Required:

  • Minimum Associates Degree in Electronics Technology, or Electronic Instrumentation, or related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience is required. Completed certificate from a recognized trade school or ROP program will be considered 
  • Demonstrated working knowledge in PC based computer and Windows operating systems (DOS, 98SE, NT, XP

Desired:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electronics Technology or Electronic Instrumentation or a related field

 Skills / Abilities / Knowledge:

Required:

  •  Must be able and willing to work independently or in a team environment; with ability to work effectively with diverse groups of people including engineering, scientific, manufacturing and marine operations staff
  • Ability to effectively engage in multiple projects at one time
  •  Demonstrated working knowledge and experience with analog and digital electronics, and data acquisition systems
  •  Demonstrated ability in MS Office (Word, Excel, and PC based computer and Windows operating systems (DOS, 98SE, NT, XP), and MS Outlook
  •  1 year work experience

 

Desired:

  •   3+ years’ work experience
  •  Training in and/or working knowledge of AutoCAD, LabView, MatLab, and C++ will be considered a plus
  •   Valid TWIC card
  •  Up-to-date BOSIET certification

 

Offshore Requirement:

  •  This position is required to take and successfully pass rigorous offshore survival classes as may be required by company clients.
  •   For this role, a valid TWIC and BOSIET will need to be maintained, and this training will be provided if not already held by potential candidates.
  •  Working 10 to 12 hours days will be expected when working in shipyards or offshore
  •   Must be able to travel internationally
