Deputy Head of ITS and Head of IT Strategy & Governance

(Office Location: Basel, Switzerland)

Purpose of the job:

As Head of IT Strategy and Governance, leads all aspects of strategy and governance for the unit, and works with ITS management and business areas to build the Bank-wide Technology strategy, and related annual budget, facilitating IT decision making at every level.

Accountable for delivery of key Technology transformation programmes, including the Bank's Artificial Intelligence program, and overall ITS product management. Owns the unit's delivery responsibilities on major transformation efforts.

Deputises for the Head of ITS, and helps define, develop and implement the ITS Strategy.

The role is based in Basel, Switzerland, however, thanks to our status as an international organization, we can hire globally and welcome applications from candidates of all nationalities located anywhere in the world. Relocation support is available for the successful candidate and their dependent family members.

Principal accountabilities:

Leadership

  • Provides leadership across ITS activities, including strategic development of the business unit, management of ITS staff, development of business relationships and decision-making
  • Build a vision for excellence in IT Strategy and Governance, incorporating industry Leading practice, subject matter expertise, and experience, and lead Bank-wide implementation of related processes
  • Provide leadership to strategic IT change programmes, including establishment of effective product management practices, enabling cross-IT delivery teams and guiding major change activities

Performance and Risk Management

  • Establish effective performance management practices that enable ITS leadership to optimally supervise and direct the work of the unit, using critical metrics (e.g. performance and risk indicators) and other suitable methods
  • Coordinate ITS risk management activities. Ensure technology risk management policies and procedures are effective and integrated into the Bank’s operational risk management framework.
  • Lead all aspects of IT-wide 2LOD for technology risk and the implementation of mature risk management practices and capabilities
  • Lead ITS-wide activities to ensure compliance with audit and control obligations

IT Governance

  • Develop and operate IT governance policies, processes and ways of working, including IT steering activities up to Bank Management level
  • Lead Bank-wide IT budget planning activity and oversee the IT budget on an ongoing basis
  • Develop and guide the implementation of Bank-wide IT workforce strategy
  • Provide the framework, tools and supporting services for effectively leading IT change, product portfolios, finances, and resources across the organisation
  • Lead all aspects of Bank-wide IT demand management, investment prioritisation vendor management and capacity planning activities
  • Lead administrative support for the ITS unit and Management team

Product and Program Management

  • Coordinate development of Bank-wide IT strategy and alignment with overall business strategy
  • Establish effective visibility and performance management across Bank-wide IT portfolio and product management activities
  • Develop IT product portfolio strategy and implement effective portfolio management practices across strategic ITS business platforms
  • Lead strategic ITS change programmes and related business change activities, including management of IT delivery teams if required

Work experience: 

Significant managerial experience in a related senior IT management role.

Qualifications:

Master’s degree in business administration, computer science or equivalent.

Skills:

  • Broad and developed understanding of enterprise Technology practices, and of their application to business strategy
  • Sound understanding of the latest ways of working and Leading practices in IT strategy and governance
  • Deep knowledge and experience in delivering sophisticated IT transformation programmes
  • Ability to negotiate optimally, both within and outside the organisation
  • Excellent stakeholder management and interpersonal skills
  • Leadership/coaching/development experience in relation to both own staff and others.
  • Excellent presentation and communication skills – ability to present points clearly and convincingly, including to senior management level
  • Ability to actively work to support cultural change initiatives, and actively challenge cultural barriers.
