About Tonga Safe and Resilient Schools Project
The Tonga Safe and Resilient Schools Project (TSRSP) is a key project funded by the World Bank aimed at strengthening the safety and resilience of selected school facilities, education management, and the quality of teaching across the Kingdom of Tonga. This component is to improve the multi-hazard resilience of school buildings and facilities.
The project's objectives are to enhance the disaster resilience, safety, accessibility, and inclusivity of selected schools across five islands in Tonga. It involves initial assessment, investigation, design, documentation, procurement and construction supervision work for either replacement or repair at 62 school sites. The project locations span across Tongatapu, Vava'u, Eua, Ha'apai, and the Nuias islands. The project will prioritize schools identified as being at the highest risk from natural disasters.
About the Role
DT Global is seeking a Building Plumbing Supervisor/WASH Specialist for our Tonga Safe and Resilient Schools Project. The provision of Building Plumbing Supervisor/WASH Specialist input is required for the following project stages in accordance with the Project Terms of Reference:
Stage 1 – Data Collection
Stage 2 – Design and Procurement
Stage 3 – Construction Supervision
Specific roles and responsibilities are:
Participate in site assessments where there is proposed WASH facility upgrades or new WASH buildings to enable assessment and verification of the hydraulic and plumbing needs to be appropriately included in the documentation packages and in accordance with the Tonga Building National Code(TBNC) requirements
Prepare site specific WASH designs. Designs will utilize learnings from past projects and incorporate improvements to the design process (such as reuse/recycling, better ventilation against infectious diseases, and other functional considerations) for retrofits and minor repairs as required, considering the TNBC,AS/NZ Standards, and international best practice guidelines.
Provide support to the broader supervision team to oversee any WASH construction to ensure plumbing standards and expected quality of works are achieved.
Provide support to Contractors to build their capacity to better implement WASH related activities
Provide training to the Site Assessor/ Building Construction Supervision in supporting WASH building during construction supervision phase
About You
To be eligible for this position, you must satisfy the following requirements:
Acceptable levels of training and certification
At least 5 years sanitary plumbing design and/or construction experience
Tonga or Pacific island experience preferred
