Technical Writer

The Technical Writer works as part of the Product Design team to create and maintain documentation that efficiently and effectively transfers knowledge to relevant audiences. The candidates play an important role in improving the internal and external customer and user experience by providing clear, easy-to-understand materials to help users set up and use our products and services
 
Purpose
 
The Technical Writer works as part of the Product Design team  to create and maintain documentation that efficiently and effectively transfers knowledge to relevant audiences. The Technical Writer applies technical writing best practices to design, test, and refine documentation that supports our products and internal processes. The candidates play an important role in improving the internal and external customer and user experience by providing clear, easy-to-understand materials to help users set up and use our products and services. The technical writer works really closely with the Product designer and product manager on the team and is also part of a wider technical writer team.
 
 
 
Essential Duties
Based in Dublin, Ireland, and reporting to Director, Product Design, the successful candidate is expected to:
 
  • Deliver high quality documentation in a variety of media; documentation includes:
  • Product manuals
  • Online help articles
  • Developer documentation (e.g SDks, APIs, …
  • Design system documentation (Accessibility guidelines, UI standards
  • Conform to departmental style guidelines, and ensure documentation meets the needs of the business and the audience
  • Adhere to departmental processes for the development, management, and control of documentation
  • Work with other departments to acquire and disseminate information in a timely manner
  • Adapt to changing business needs and changing industry practices to ensure that Global Payments’s documentation always meets the needs of the business and the audience
  • Research, analyze, organize, design, and develop the presentation of technical information
  • Edit documentation and other information products for non-documentation colleagues
  • Pursue job/career-related learning outside of the scope of assigned tasks, for example, classes, reading
  • Manage and be responsible for medium to large technical documentation project
  • Play an active role in maintaining and improving team standard
  • All other duties as assigned
 
Required Qualifications
  • Degree in Computing, Technical Writing, or related field, or equivalent industry experience
  • Demonstrate an excellent level of understanding of the documentation lifecycle
  • Demonstrate a structured approach to documentation planning and design
  • Familiarity with common web technologies and competent with HTML and CSS
  • Able to work on several projects at once and manage medium to large technical documentation projects 
  • Exemplary level of writing proficiency
  • Comfortable liaising with stakeholders 
  • Ability to analyze and organize complex material
  • Demonstrate skill at encouraging others to provide feedback on projects
  • Adapt easily to new technologies, methodologies, and writing techniques; advocates for change when necessary
  • Ability to successfully manage concurrent deliverables on time and with quality within fast-paced environment and under deadlines 
  • High level of competence with MS Office, Adobe CC, Document Management Systems, Content Management Systems, Ticketing Systems and Wikis
  • Exemplary oral and written communication skills
  • An excellent understanding of “Plain English” writing technique
  • Experience in a software development or payment industry environment
  • Experience interpreting software engineering development documents and creating user-friendly customer-facing documentation from the materi
  • Extensive experience of writing API documentation for third-party developers
