Compensation & Benefits Manager 

The Bank for International Settlements (BIS) is hiring two Compensation & Benefits Managers within the Human Resources team. 

This role is based in Basel, Switzerland however, thanks to our status as an international organization, we can hire globally and welcome applications from candidates of all nationalities and located anywhere in the world. Relocation support is available for the successful candidate and their dependent family members. 

Purpose of the job:

Reporting to the Head of Compensation & Benefits, the Compensation & Benefits Manager will work as part of a small team responsible for designing, implementing, and managing the organisation’s compensation and benefits in line with the strategy by:

  • Reviewing current practices, recommending strategic and pragmatic solutions and recommendations, and effectively implementing changes
  • Benchmarking salaries and benefits with peer group organisations
  • Advising the business on all areas of compensation and benefits, including job architecture and policies.

Principal Accountabilities:

  • Collaborate closely with the Head of Compensation & Benefits to develop and evolve the compensation and benefits offering, policies and processes. 
  • Contribute to surveys related to compensation and benefits and conduct regular benchmarking  for policy and process developments. 
  • Working collaboratively with HRBPs, manage the annual performance and salary review processes, including making recommendations for continuous improvement, budget setting and ensuring effective communication of the processes with all stakeholders. 
  • Provide salary proposals based on the relevant policies to ensure fair pay decisions in the organisation. Support the Head of Compensation &
  • Benefits in exceptional case decisions.
  • Conduct job evaluations for new or changed roles, advise HR and managers on the process. Build and maintain the organisation’s job architecture.
  • Contribute to the management of the Bank’s pension system, working with the Bank’s actuary on regular valuations and reporting, providing advice to departing members of staff and working with payroll to provide an effective pension administration service.  
  • Develop and maintain a clear, transparent, and understandable HR Analytics structure in line with the organisation’s needs and in line with external practice. 
  • Utilise HRIS and other systems to gather, analyse, and report on compensation and benefits metrics, trends, and effectiveness.
  • Collaborate with finance to plan and control the HR related annual budget effectively and as accurately as possible. 
  • Support the wider HR team, staff and managers with professional advice related to Compensation and Benefit policies and processes.

Qualifications, skills, and experience:

  • Experience in compensation and benefits within an international environment, with expertise in development and management of compensation and benefit plans and policies.
  • Experience in market benchmarking practices. 
  • Strong numerical and analytical skills and meticulous attention to detail.
  • Extensive knowledge of HR IT systems (experience with Oracle PeopleSoft HR or Workday would be an advantage).
  • Exposure to managing job evaluation processes, knowledge of Hay methodology would be an advantage. 
  • Experience in handling projects and external vendors.
  • Advanced interpersonal and influencing skills and experience of communicating and building trust across all levels of the organisation.  
  • Ability to utilise knowledge and professional expertise to identify gaps, discrepancies and room for improvement and find solutions. 
  • Excellent written and oral skills in English.
