The Role - Assistant Consultant/Consultant - Fixed Term 3 months

The Frontier Tech Hub is a flagship initiative within the FCDO that explores how emerging technologies — including artificial intelligence, blockchain, remote sensing, and digital identity — can be responsibly applied to solve complex global development challenges. Operating at the intersection of innovation and impact, the Frontier Tech Hub provides technical expertise, experimentation spaces, and strategic guidance to help FCDO teams harness cutting-edge tools in real-world contexts. By fostering a culture of curiosity, collaboration, and ethical innovation, the Frontier Tech Hub ensures the UK remains at the forefront of tech-enabled development and diplomacy.

The Frontier Tech Hub’s work is structured around three core pillars:

  • Scoping Frontier Technologies through Futures Immersions and Horizon Scanning
  • Testing and Developing Frontier Technologies through funding pilots to evaluate critical assumptions and supporting High Impact Strategic Investments 
  • Adopting Frontier Technologies through conducting AI Opportunity Scans and running an AI Sandbox which enables hands-on experimentation and practical demonstrations of what AI can do.

Main Responsibilities / Job Content

You will be an integral member of the Contracts Management Unit of the Frontier Technology Programme.  As a member of the CMU you will support the following functions

·       Develop, manage and oversee all systems and processes related to procurement and managing grant agreements and subcontracts related to pilots and technical assistance.

·       Ensure adherence to all systems and processes related to procurement and managing subcontracts, including advising when to terminate or re-start procurement where due process is not followed.

·       Draft all contracts, ensuring factors such as safeguarding, insurance, the sprint methodology where appropriate and any milestone payments are clearly articulated.

·       Manage all grants through implementation - each grant will be assigned a grant manager who will draw upon coaches or Technical Assistance (TA) as needed, streamlining the approach to Grant Management.

·       Ensure the effective closing of all grants and TA Contracts, ensuring all deliverables have been submitted to a high quality and ensuring smooth asset transfer aligned with FCDO’s contractual requirements.

·       Manage the finances relating to all grants and subcontracts, this includes providing monthly forecasts and details on actual expenditure through formalised internal consortium reporting mechanisms.

·       Support the programme financial management including reviewing cost reports and preparing invoices.

·       Be responsible for the documentation of all grant agreements, subcontracts, invoices and supporting evidence.

You will also have the opportunity to support other areas of the programme including but not limited to Knowledge management and network management and maintaining the programme website.

Beyond your work on Frontier Technologies, you may also support DT Global bidding processes, on an as needed basis, this may involve amongst other things: coordinating with potential team members, undertaking contextual and partner research, and contributing to technical and commercial proposals.
